A new Kindle 2 cover has been announced via press release today that has a built-in booklight. The company, called Periscope, has previously made a similar cover for the original Kindle. The new version doesn’t appear to be for sale yet, but has a page on Amazon and is listed at $49.95.

I’ve been perfectly content with my official Amazon Kindle 2 cover, and I very rarely use a booklight, so a multi-tasking cover (especially one that appears so bulky) doesn’t appeal to me. However, I can see how Kindle owners that frequently read in bed or on redeye flights could really appreciate this cover.

The part I appreciate about the cover is the built-in notebook and pen holder, which could really come in handy to get rid of stray to-do list thoughts while reading or to take notes if you prefer pen & paper to the Kindle’s annotation system.
